    Matt paints DKH

With my undead army almost nearing completion (for the moment at least!), it's time to start one of my other 2012 projects: painting all the DKH models. To date we've only been playing Dead Rising (although I do have all the sets) with the models from the Mhorgoth Rising starter set. All those models come with solid square bases which while fine for KoW make it hard to see the lovely dungeon tiles and also any counter under the models (e.g. injured tokens or piles of bones).

With that in mind I found a company online who would cut clear plastic into 25mm squares... perfect for DKH! So the plan is to mount all the models on these squares so they are stable on the table and during the game but also don't mask the artwork underneath.

I started putting the dwarfs together from Dead Rising this morning. Here are some WIP shots:

The bag of clear bases (I ordered 100.. enough for all the DKH sets and also Project Pandora )

A base with the protective covers removed and how it looks with a model on a tile
    DSCN8986.jpgDSCN8988.jpg

All the dwarfs assembled. I made the tomb out of plasticard and bits from the frames.

Finally, I've got time and we have decent enough weather to spray them up ready for painting (Halfords Grey Primer)

With luck I'll have time to start painting these up this afternoon.

Looking forward to seeing how they turn out. DKH is one of my projects too in the next few months.

Love the clear bases, great idea - got a link to the site?

    Got them from here: http://www.theplasticman.co.uk/index...FZARfAod1jQSLQ

They only work out (unpolished sides which is fine) at 1p per base so the 100 I got were only £1!

However.... the P&P was huge because I think they are expecting you to be ordering lots of plastic in one go and the minimum P&P charge is for up to 5kg of plastic. They whole order cost me about £14!

Worth it though I think for all the bases for all the game sets.

Looking great, Matt. The clear bases are a stroke of genius - DKH shows off how lovely Mantic models are, rather than them being lost in the horde of KOW. Not that theres anything wrong with big armies.

I can't take credit for the idea of the bases I'm afraid to say. Baragash (on another forum) came up with it first I think. I've just shamelessly stolen it (and might be the first person to have actually got round to doing it!).

    Very nice, I like those.

Does the tomb marker have any part in the game or is it for decoration?

It's used in the first mission. The dwarfs need to get into the room with the tomb and spend an action in a square next to the marker.

Great thread, nice painting on show plus good ideas on the clear bases and tomb marker (both of which I plan on shamelessly copying ).

Doh! Guess who used his to build a wound marker for KoW. I was planning on seeing if anyone had any going spare to make up more anyway.

One of these days I'll get round to playing the game too!

You should Maccwar.. it's a great little game.

Of course anyone who wants to go the clear-base rule is obviously free to do so... I nicked it from someone else myself!

Really nice looking paint jobs, especially on those clear bases. Will be getting some of those next time funds are available.

Very Nice!, You'll have to show off your DKH this evening Matt if i can make it
When the Council first heard about this thing, it was "crew expendable".
The next time they sent in Enforcers - they were expendable too.
What makes you think they're gonna care about a bunch of Colonists at the Ass-end of Deadzone? You really think they're gonna let YOU interfere with their plans for Plague?
They think we're ...they think we're crud!.
And they don't give a CRAP about one friend of yours that's died. Not one!!

Aye liking those I have had a few games but have only got round to sticking the stunties together at the moment (both me and my mate have large dwarf armies and I am still adding to my own undead so there is no shortage of minis when we play. But eventually I want to have the painted sets on a mantic case, in the box with all the other bits so its everything you need inside the box.
